Annie Get Your Gun

I'm An Indian Too ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

This Rhino CD is the definitive soundtrack of Annie Get Your Gun. The M-G-M Records album had previously only been available on the long out-of-print "two-fer" album from 1974, coupled with the soundtrack to Show Boat (1951) and a limited edition made for The Judy Garland Club and only given out to the club members.

This CD brings together for the first time the restored soundtrack for the film, as well as all of the pre-recordings to the ill-fated Garland version.

Producer's Notes from the CD booklet by George Feltenstein:

"This very special album from Turner Classic Movies Music/Rhino Movie Music marks the premier release of the complete score of M-G-M's Annie Get Your Gun, as recorded by both its star, Betty Hutton, and Judy Garland, who was originally cast as Annie. Although M-G-M Records released an Annie Get Your Gun soundtrack album when the film hit theaters in 1950, that release featured only eight songs, bypassing "I'm An Indian, Too" and "Colonel Buffalo Bill." Garland's recordings remained buried in the studio vaults, except for "You Can't Get A Man With A Gun," which M-G-M Records included in several Garland compilation albums. In the 1970s bootleg LP's of Garland's prerecordings surfaced, with horrendous sound quality. Nevertheless, collectors were thrilled to hear the Annie who might have been. The Hutton soundtrack was reissued several times by M-G-M Records in various forms, with the last release in 1973, paired with Show Boat.

Many of the Garland tracks had their first legitimate release several years ago as part of the Turner Classic Movies Music/Rhino Movie Music set Judy Garland: Collector's Gems From The M-G-M Films, and both Garland and Hutton tracks have appeared on other TCM/RMM releases. This collection finally provides all of the material on one album, and it also includes a few instrumental tracks, never before released. Unfortunately, not all of M-G-M's prerecording masters for Annie Get Your Gun survived in their original form, and several different sources had to be used to create this album, including acetate prerecordings and the composite film soundtrack itself. This explains the wide variation in sound quality between tracks. Where surviving multi channel recordings were extant, those tracks have been mixed to stereo from the original sources."
