1961 - 1965 Timeline

TV GuideJudy GarlandThe years 1961 through 1965 were extremely gratifying ones for Judy. Professionally she was at the peak of her "Concert Years" era. After her unfortunate bout with Hepatitis, Judy bounced back stronger than ever. She gave literally hundreds of concerts, including the historic Carnegie Hall appearance. She made 4 films, several television specials, and most importantly she did the ill-fated "The Judy Garland Show" series for CBS. This series gave Judy fans a wealth of fantastic performances and gave Judy the chance to perform with both established and up and coming stars.

Unfortunately, the financial security that Judy had hoped the series would give her was not to be. The show was canceled after one season, despite great reviews and good ratings. For a detailed account, read Coyne Steven Sanders' "Rainbow's End - The Judy Garland Show." This book is by far one of the best books about Judy ever released. Full of accurate and detailed information, the book relays the story of the show from beginning to end and is a fascinating look into the world of television in the early 1960's as well as Judy's career at this time.

Judy Garland Books
For even more detailed timelines, check out Scott Schechter's fantastic book "Judy Garland The Day-by-Day Chronicle of a Legend." This book is not a "biography" but exactly what the title says: A Day-by-Day Chronicle of Judy's life. With access to the Arthur Freed archives in the UCLA Library, as well as a multitude of other sources, Scott picks up where The Judy Room timelines leave off - and provides even more detailed information than you'll find here. Nice pictures too. For people who enjoy raw data this is the book for you! - Click here to purchase.
